Oh Boy, we are going to have to smack my friend Loretta of Just Not Martha is asking about shoes. I cringe cause she lives in chuck taylors. Doc martin’s aren’t so bad, they have support and goodness knows you are getting a workout by carrying around those heavy things! lol
Well here is going to be the problem and I’m sure there are others of you with this problem as well. Let me give you some background. I HATE SHOES! I like to blame it on being Native American and I’m used to running barefoot right? LOL But seriously, I hate it. So that out of the way, you can imagine how I like being in my cross-trainers and running shoes 6 days a week all day long.
But here is why I need good shoes. I’m 35. I’ve been in sports all my life and been blessed with no knee issues or any other issues. BECAUSE I HAD APPROPRIATE SHOES! Now running shoes can differ because it depends on they way your feet have a tendency to turn. Mine roll outward, so I need shoes that tilt my feet back in. This keeps my feet in line.
Walking does not put the same pressure on your feet. BUT, the reason that poor Loretta feels uncomfortable is because she is used to no arches in her shoes or slipper socks. lol Loretta may have shorter arches. Hitting a store with many choices and brands is in order. Remember you don’t have to purchase from this store, but find out what works for you and then go find the best price. But get some arch support.
So many other things about shoes. Anyone want to know about why you want different shoes for different sports?

I should have known you would say that! Aw, boogers.
I couldn’t agree with you more Val. I have low arches and when I wanted to start running I went to a local runners haven called Phidippides Encino where co-owner, Craig (Running Guru) instructed me on the structure of feet and the importance of shoes. I ended up choosing Asics 2120 of the two pairs he suggested. I LOVE THEM! Have never had a problem with my feet while running!
Thanks Val, great advice.
Here’s what I wanna know, Val – I have some Dr. Scholl’s walking shoes – you’d think those’d be great, right? Granted – they came from the Evil WalFart – but, we’re talkin’ Dr. Scholl’s!
Normal day-to-day wear, they’re fine. But when we go on long walks – my feet really get to hurting. These shoes are 1 1/2 yrs. old. Maybe it’s just the oldness of them? Or do you think Dr. S put his name on shoddy shoes?
I’ve got some others that came from a fancy tennis club pro shop – I’m sure they were expensive. SIL bought them and never wore them – but, they’re so dang STIFF – they’re really hard to get used to. I’m a shoe-hater, too – so all that stiffness gives me claustrophobia in the feet. Yes – it’s a new condition!
Most probably it is the oldness of the shoes. Think of how many miles you have put on those shoes. Dr. Scholl can’t even build a shoe that can keep from breaking down. I have to replace my running shoes every 6 months and all I do is use them for running. Not even working out in the gym much and never just walking around.
If you are wearing the shoes all the time then they will only last about 3 months. If your shoes have the right support then they will feel good from day one. There is no “break-in” period. If they don’t feel good to begin with then they are not the right shoes for your feet.
