Nutrition is essential in order for you to stay fit, healthy and well balanced internally. Your body uses over 45 different types of nutrients, each nutrient is used in a separate way; from creation of new cells and tissues to helping create energy. In order to optimize your muscle and fitness levels it is important to understand how nutrients work and affect your body as well as your everyday life.
Nutrients can be taken in many forms from, fruits, vegetables, meat, some drinks and in the form of supplements. Good nutrition is accountable for treating many illnesses found in the body as well as support the body to stay healthy. Plant compounds (phytochemicals) which are found in such things as soybeans and tomatoes have been seen to have disease battling properties. Zinc supplements have been found to reduce the duration of the common cold and decrease acute diarrhea. You do not have to eat a variety of foods either to ensure you get the correct amounts of nutrients, there are, of course, supplements. You can buy supplements from any major supermarket, online, or on some occasions, from a knowledgeable specialty shop.
Supplements have received a lot of attention from the media about being bad for the body. However, the media failed to mention the fact that they are only harmful to the body if they are taken over the recommended daily amount. Even with good things, everything is about moderation. Too much of a good thing is still not healthy.
Vitamins and minerals play an essential and crucial role in our body’s basic growth, metabolism and development. As you may already know a vitamin in itself is not a source of energy for the body but it does aid in the production of energy and helps to burn fat when carrying out everyday activities such as walking to work or to your corner shop. A better metabolism also helps to burn fat and reduces weight as food is passed throughout the body at a better rate and the essential substances needed are also better absorbed, hence making you feel less hungry and less likely to eat snacks in-between meals. A lack of vitamin such as vitamin A can lead to night blindness and this is linked with zinc as zinc is used in order to absorb the vitamin.
Vitamins and minerals play an important and essential role in our everyday lives and you should take care of your body by making sure you take in the correct amounts of vitamins daily. It can reduce the risks of heart attacks, reduce obesity and make your skin look healthier and hair healthier as well.

Great read! There are a lot of things in this article that I didn’t know. I never really thought of my body as a machine that reacts based on what I put in it. I’ll make sure to give my body the nutrition it needs so that it can perform at peak condition.
Do you know what vitamins or supplements can help with bloating and wind and constipation. I have found eating fibre makes the problem worse.
I would try some probiotics first to see if that helps. But then double check your diet. You may have a food allergy or IBS. With my IBS I can not eat many foods. I have to keep my meats very lean, no heavy fried foods, no dairy or whey, and alcohol and caffeine also cause my intestinal system to rebel. Introduce extra fiber slowly, don’t jump to high doses.
Not many people know a lot about good nutrition. And I mean really know. Most teens aren’t even required to take a basic nutrition class in school. However, nutrition is the one thing in life that affects your whole life. Good or bad nutrition habits can affect your emotions, your your physical features including your skin, hair and bodyshape, and even how you treat others. Your nutrition habits will also have major effects on your health now and in the future. So how important is nutrition in your life?
I have just graduated with a bachelors degree in nutrition and food science. I did not plan on taking this any further. Now I am taking the year off to apply to medical school. Medicine is my passion, but my chances of acceptance do not look good, so I am looking into a masters in human nutrition, and going on to get a PhD. I figure that I’ll still be involved in healthcare, even if it is not my first choice. Besides teaching and research, do you know of any career opportunities in nutrition and food science with either a masters or PhD? Thank you in advance for your answers.
A seemingly healthy salad is the next disastrous course when eating out. A salad by itself is healthy, but many restaurants will add croutons, bacon bits, cheese, and fatty dressings to the lettuce and a couple other vegetables. The result is enough fat to fulfill your fat content for the entire day
Importantly you should remember that if you have a healthy balanced diet, then you will already be taking in most of the vitamins and minerals you need… Right?? correct me if I’m wrong.. Thanks for the tips!
Hi Thalia, ideally yes. But, it’s virtually impossible to take in the recommended amount of all vitamins and minerals and keep to your daily caloric intake.
Patty, I’ll definitely be posting more recipes and also in a printable format.
I am a vegetarian so therefor i love this nutritious salad. The information about the vitamins that we can get into this food are very well said. I hope that you were going to post more nutritious foods here with an ingredients and recipe
. Thanks for sharing.
It’s not good for your health to drink more than one cup of coffee a day, and I drink at least two—so I am going to do a little lifestyle makeover myself. The excuse I use is that I juggle college and a professional life, so of course I need the boost, right? Wrong. The reality is that I don’t need to depend on caffeine for energy, and neither do you if we get enough rest, exercise, and eat right.
True, but in your case something may have to give and it’s generally sleep. When I was juggling full time school, working and family I didn’t have an option of getting even 6 hours sleep. Now that it is an option I totally agree that caffeine is a poor substitute for a healthier way of life. As long as you have the option. I’ve had the option taken away as I’m super caffeine sensitive now so I can’t drink very much of it at all. It’s frustrating as I LOVE COFFEE!
