Music is HUGE for me. I can’t sing to save my life and I can’t play an instrument, but I have a major love for music.
My workouts can really depend on my music as well. Personally I love my heavy metal and dance music for workouts. Mostly it’s about the beat. If I am jogging then dance music is awesome. I can concentrate on that beat and it’s rhythmic. It keeps me striding out to the beat. But my metal is my angry music. I need something at that first mile mark that gets me going. That is my sticky point where I usually have to really talk myself into not being a pansy and get it done. This is when I like my music to get a little heavy at least for a song or two. Depending on the day I may need it the entire jog. lol
Then of course there are different workout playlists I create. Days I don’t want to workout I need a lot of motivation. Motivation in music comes to me in different forms and for different reasons. I love having my playlists set up so I can swap to what I need that day.
But something else I have learned over the years is to get pumped up before the workout. This comes back from my high school days actually. I had my Rob Base tape (yes aging myself here huh?) and I listened to it and drove around before going to every volleyball game. Before hubby and I get to our co-ed soccer games I have to put in some music with a great beat. On the way to skiing we may listen to some more mellow music for a little bit as we are waking up at 6am, but before we start up the base of the mountain I’ve got it cranked to Kid Rock!
Music prior to a workout can really get you in the mood to move. Everyone has different tastes in music but everyone can get motivated by it. To make the most of your workout, listen to great music before you get started. Then at workout time you are jumping into it and ready to rock it.
My absolute favorite MP3 player is the Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum). I love paying for my monthly subscription and then having unlimited downloads each month. I’ve had my zune for over 2 years now, download a lot of tunes and full albums and STILL haven’t hit half way full on my GB’s. I’m looking forward to upgrading to the zune that has wifi for my emails.

This Zune HD device is very attractive and the interface is not too different than the current interface. The browser looks pretty complete, at least from what I’ve seen, and the on screen keyboard looks like it is not all bad, like so many on screen keyboards. It is definitely way better than the current Zune’s method of input.
Good to know quickcash. I really need to stop at a store and play with one.
LV- yes, if I don’t have someone to talk to then music MUST happen. Otherwise the work out can really drag.
Interesting !!!I’ve been using hard driving music for years when I do winter intervals on the bike trainer, which are basically moderate to hard efforts. Yeah, of course, it helps with engendering motivation. Any spin class worth attending uses fast paced music to motivate participants and I won’t attend classes where the chosen music is out of synch with the level of efforts.
I love my ipod during workout. It keeps me going and motivated.I listen rock n rolla it keep me stimulated and fill an energy.
Darn it, I forgot to grab my zune from hubby’s car before he went to work. Now I’ll rummage around house to borrow someone’s ipod for my run lol
