Why keeping fit is so hard and how to counter it

Let’s face it when you are trying to get fit and healthy it seems like every obstacle possible gets in your way, there’s those lovely freshly baked foods in the shop window while your jogging, the cool movie on the tv you want to watch when you usually do your exercises and so on.

Why is it that we always find keeping fit a struggle? The simple answer is because its natural. We don’t routinely do our fitness exercises for a long enough period to enable us to find it easy and natural to keep going. In order to counter the annoyingly high amounts of things dying to be eaten or watched you need to get into a regimen where you just go and do it automatically.

It sounds easy but it is by far one of the hardest things to do. Think about how long it took you to get into a routine of waking up in the morning and going to work and then carrying out your job and family life? A month, two months? Now think about it you are trying to get yourself healthier, where’s the immediate motivation? Maybe your children, family and your doctor think you would be better off working out or maybe your doing it for self orientated reasons. But at the end of the day you need to find that one motivating factor that you can use to keep yourself going. In work its money and providing for yourself and your family the same needs to be applied to your fitness regimen.

Now you know the two key ways in which you can counter temptation (a goal and getting into a regimen) you now need to do something you never thought possible, enjoy the exercise. There are quite a few ways to do just that.

Go for a jog around your local park area, this way you will always see different people about and not fall into the monotonous feel of running around your garden 5 times in the morning. If you run at the same time each day, you will also come to find a few others working hard to complete exactly what you are doing. Camaraderie is a great motivator to show up again the next day.

Another good method to enjoy yourself while keeping fit is to have a partner. Maybe not your wife or husband, maybe a close friend who shares the same goal. However remember that you are doing these exercises and keeping fit for yourself and no one else so if your partner decides to bail on you, you need to forget about them and carry on doing your own thing. Make them go when they don’t want to.

Temptation is a deadly sin and it can easily grasp you by the leg and stop you from getting fit and staying in shape which holds a lot more benefits for you in the future then sitting down and watching television or eating that lovely creamed filled donut in the shop window.
