Irritable Bowel Syndrome encompasses many symptoms associated with the gastrointestinal tract and is much more disruptive than pain and discomfort when attempting bowel movement. For some it is pain every day and can be all day. Moreover, abdominal pain, or alternating bouts of constipation and diarrhea may accompany this syndrome. Here are 5 natural remedies to try for IBS.
1. Avoid emotional stress and pressures as this can bring on severe bouts.
2. A high-fiber diet can help alleviate the symptoms.
3. Keep a diary of what you eat and drink to determine the cause of pain. This is your number one plan of attack for future comfort.
4. Peppermint capsules can reduce the pain and bloating.
5. Probiotics have been shown to reduce not only abdominal pain and bloating, but allow for easy bowel movement as well.
Because the symptoms of IBS are often brought on by tension and strain in your lifestyle as well as a poor diet, it is recommended that your diet consist of low-fat, high-fiber meals. Adding plenty of greens and fruits, including spinach, whole-grain products, and drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water a day can also alleviate the problem. Also, prune juice may be recommended as a stimulant to improve bowel movement. Smoking should be avoided as it often intensifies the symptoms.
A daily diary noting the foods you eat will help to reveal the sources of the problem. Perhaps fried foods are the cause, or you are not consuming enough vegetables or fruits. A diary can be quite helpful in ascertaining why your bowel movements are not only irregular, but painful as well.
Peppermint is known to reduce the abdominal pain and bloating of irritable bowel syndrome due to the fact that it blocks the movement of calcium into muscle cells in the intestines, and eases muscle contractions. It is also helpful in eliminating excess gas in the intestines.
Probiotics, which are primarily found in dairy products such as yogurt and fermented foods, offer a natural remedy for IBS. In a recent study of women with IBS, probiotics were found to be more effective in reducing abdominal pain, bloating, bowel dysfunction, incomplete evacuation, straining, and gas. Probiotics are probably the best known microorganisms one can utilize to effectively act as one of the natural remedies for IBS.

I could not imagine having to go through this. I am going to try and stay healthy to fight it!
Yes, eat healthy but as of right now they don’t have a rhyme or reason why we have IBS. So there is no way to truly fight it yet. Heard that they are doing some clinical tests right now and I’m excited about that!

IBS medical treatment doesn’t work o me. the gastroenterologist thats the best he can do and there is not much more treatment left.
I exercise daily, drink plenty of water and I have a high Fibre diet. I have been diagnosed with IBS and my constipation is very bad. I would like to know which foods have broiught relief for other sfferes and also which to avoid. ( I know everone is somewhat diffrent, but still, there must be general stuff). I feel very depressed and none of my loved ones understand what I am going through. Please give me advice.
IBS is not a disease, it is a symptom. Do you have wheat allergy? gluten intolerance, ? Celiac disease? charcoal should help temporarily, but if you don’t find and fix the cause you are in for a rough road.
Safety surfaces, the main problem is there are so many reasons you can have IBS. Even after finding all those reasons, you can still have flareups with foods that don’t normally cause it. I know it’s not a disease because they don’t have an exact reason it happens, but it is not something that can just be treated and you are all better.
Bowel habits will vary widely from person to person. However, as a general guideline, inability to pass hard stools almost daily is considered constipation. In addition, if you frequently have to strain to defecate, you also may benefit from therapies aimed at relieving constipation.
Very informative article.I just want to add one more thing, check on the health of your liver. This organ is responsible for waste disposal system of the human body. If the bile it releases if enough to throw away all wastes from the body (with the help of the kidney) then IBs will be cured. Of course, this should be always supplemented by proper (yes, proper) eating, and that’s eating vegetables and fruits raw – juicing it would be what is best for the body! God created us to eat plants and its fruits – RAW!
Thanks for the tips about having healthier organs “weight loss boot camp” but there is NO CURE for IBS. We can try to manage it as well as possible, but it’s something those of us diagnosed with it will always have.
The cause of IBS is unknown, but several hypotheses have been proposed. The risk of developing IBS increases sixfold after acute gastrointestinal infection. Post-infection, further risk factors are young age, prolonged fever, anxiety, and depression
I have been diagnosed by a rheumatologist with fibromyalgia. The drugs he prescribed are helping, but I still have pain in all of my muscles. My other symptoms include muscle weakness, difficulty sleeping, fatigue, dizziness, and IBS with constipation. The constipation is even worse with the meds
Become very strict with your diet and get fiber added per doctors orders.
yes, natural remedies are way better. irregularity of bowel system may appear as Abdominal Pain Symptoms first.
Always good to go the natural way first, however there are times that drugs are necessary in order to perform daily activities.
As its name suggests, the symptoms of IBS are indeed irritating but can also be painful, as constipation hits one moment and diarrhea the next, sometimes coupled with bloating and cramping. What can be just as irritating is someone who tells you that “it’s all in your head.” Nothing could be further from the truth.
Funny you say that because that was exactly what my GI doctor said. “It’s in my head” I understand that stress supposedly makes it worse, but this was not the case and the way he talked down to me made my husband quite angry. Needless to say he is not my doctor any more. I have pain most days in a month
My other signs include muscle weakness, difficulty sleeping, fatigue, dizziness, and IBS with constipation. The constipation is even worse with the meds.
Thanks for posting! I really enjoyed the report. I’ve already bookmark this article.
Allergies and hidden foods are cause of irritable bowel syndrome. To stay way food which creates allergies is perfect way to treat IBS. So remove foods like citrus fruits, eggs, nuts, corn, dairy and wheat from your diet chart. Stay way from these foods at least four weeks and continue.
Das, for some allergies may be the reason, but I’ve been tested for food allergies and it’s not the case for me. Since most bowel issues have been grouped into being IBS it’s virtually impossible to pinpoint things. Trial and error seem to be the only way to learn how your IBS will flare.
I really like this post it is very attractive post, It’s not so bad now but I begged my doctor to test me for Celiac and he told me I was overexaggerating and it’s just lactose intolerance. I wanted to smack him because I don’t even eat a lot of dairy products and I knew it was the wheat doing those things to me. Ironically, some months later, dairy products tore me up but the symptoms weren’t the same. Thanks for sharing the information.
That’s too bad as it’s just a quick blood test. If you think that is the issue then I’d just do the elimination diet test and see if you feel better. It’s how I’ve figured out what foods I can have, have in very limited quantities or things that I shouldn’t touch with a 10 foot pole.
