Having to Modify Training

I’d like to have everyone say hello to my friend Murphy. You know, the one that created Murphy’s Law!
I’ve been excited this week, got a jump start on training, wrote out my training schedule for the next 14 weeks and then was dealt a blow…walking pneumonia. I only got 12.3 miles out of my 20 planned. It was difficult, but I just figured that was because of my allergies that have been horrible for weeks due to our horrible weather and mild winter. Alas, it is partly from it. All the drainage from my allergies helped cause it.

I posted last night that this week is a minimum of 20 miles. On Monday I ran 5 and Tuesday I ran 2.8. Today is a rest day. I’m going to run my 10k route tomorrow so I want to let my knees rest a little. Plus today has been very busy with work and errands.
Half Marathon Training

Well it’s just under 15 weeks until my first half marathon. 13 miles is going to be a long way and my goal is NOT to just finish it. I want to do it in a decent time. Decent time to me would be a 10 minute or under mile for that far of a distance. Hubby, friends and I did the Sound to Narrows a week ago and with all the hills (was unprepared for how hilly) I finished the 12k with an 11:38 mile. Wasn’t impressed with my run and it’s given me motivation for this half marathon.

Nutrition is essential in order for you to stay fit, healthy and well balanced internally. Your body uses over 45 different types of nutrients, each nutrient is used in a separate way; from creation of new cells and tissues to helping create energy. In order to optimize your muscle and fitness levels it is important to understand how nutrients work and affect your body as well as your everyday life.
Gym in the Summer
I am the first to admit that getting into the gym is difficult in the summer. I’m a jogger anyway and this is possibly the only 60 days I can get out and jog without a chance of a downpour. Still don’t hold my breath on that, but it’s the best bet I have.
So if the sun is out then it’s a sure bet the gym is quiet. But don’t let that mean you aren’t working out at all. Just change up what you are doing.

Should You Choose a Sport Drink Over Water?

One of the most important aspects of working out is making sure you are staying well-hydrated. The question many ask is whether to choose a sports drink over water? The answer depends on factors such as the length, intensity and type of exercise while considering personal preferences. Your diet also plays a role in whether a sport drink will be beneficial.
Exercise raises the body temperature, which causes sweating and loss of water and salts. However, most people working out at a low to moderate intensity for sixty minutes or less are able to stick to water. It’s the perfect choice for rehydration. Not only is it calorie free but it also moves rapidly from the stomach through the body via the blood stream. For an added bonus, it costs much less than sports drinks.
3 Mental Benefits of Weight Training

I touched on the top 3 reasons I promote weight training to women. I wrote that article about the health benefits specifically. But weight training can benefit you so much mentally.

1. Confidence. How you think of yourself is a huge key in how others will think of you. When you weight train your posture improves as you strengthen your muscles. You’ll hold yourself up taller and this brings the perception that you are more confident…even if you aren’t yet. Stand tall and be proud of your accomplishments with your workouts.
3 Reasons Weight Training is Important
I tour many of our new gym members to show them how to use our equipment correctly and give them tips. One thing I hear a lot from women is they don’t want to bulk up so they don’t really want to do weights. or I can tell that they aren’t really ever going to do a weight workout that will actually push them.
There are many reasons why weight training is important, but I’m going to hit three of the top. Remember that in order to bulk up like a body builder you would have to spend hours a day and have a major plan in place. Body builders do not get that way by working out for 20 minutes 3 days a week. lol
Quick Tip for New Mom’s Workout
As a new mom, you probably recoil at the idea of trying to get back into a workout routine. After all, you’re just getting used to the lack of routine that a new baby brings and those first couple of months home with your new baby can be rough on any new mom. Workouts don’t have to be overwhelming though; a quick tip for a new mom’s workout can take the stress off of you and bring you back to pre-baby shape faster.
